Simferopol

Simferopol was founded in 1784; the city is located near the river Salgir. With about 400.000 inhabitants, it is the administrative, economic, scientific and cultural centre of the Crimean Peninsula. The oldest buildings, the Kebir-Jami Mosque built in 1508 and the Vorontsow House built in 1827, are the most interesting architectural monuments in Simferopol.

There are some cultural facilities in the city like Crimean Academic Russian Drama Theatre, Museum of Local History, Art Museum, Swjato-Troizkij-Cathedral and Saint Peter and Paul-Cathedral. Simferopol is the capital of the autonomic Russian speaking Republic Crimea.

From Simferopol, you can reach all historic sites as well as famous bathing resorts at the coast of the Black Sea on day tours.

The National Tavria University Simferopol was founded in 1918. There are close relations with industrial, agricultural, tourism, cultural & social organisations and educational institutions in various regions within and outside the GIS. Currently, about 12,000 students from all parts of Ukraine and abroad are studying at the National Tavria University in Simferopol. Here, they can study Russian and Ukrainian at all levels, for one week or as long as they want. The university is located near the city centre, it offers a canteen, a kiosk and buffets, however they are closed during semester breaks. But near the university are various choices to dine or for snacks at reasonable prices. The host family is accessible by public transportation.
